Having made its debut during the SGIFF period last year to reconsider methods of film communing and their well-attended FFIGS Season 2026 that further developed their interests, FFIGS returns to 136 Goethe Lab with an exciting slate of activities. This year, the FFIGS lounge takes us underwater, transforming the space into an immersive, sinking submarine. After an impromptu accounting exercise (don’t ask), I caught up with some of the organisers EXYL, Renee and Vicks to discuss this year’s programming, the art of doing nothing and why audiences should come to FFIGS for a nap.
Phyllis: What is the vision for FFIGS this year?
EXYL: Come take a nap at FFIGS, under the sea.
Renee: In a shell, in a sinking submarine. Adrift.
E: The captain is dead. Nobody’s watching you. You are safe.
R: See the octopus clambering through the walls.
P: Why should people take a nap at FFIGS?
E: Because you’re overstretched from having to attend two programmes at once!
Vicks: And we paid good money for the decor.
E: We got the most talented animators, Tofuhouse and Onion, in Singapore to do non-animation. We hired only people named after food items to make our decor. And it’s very immersive.
P: What about events happening at FFIGS?
E: There’s a lot of external events this year which we are very excited about. There’s very serious stuff with very serious films. There’s also fun ones, like the animation workshop with Ryan Benjamin Lee.
V: If you enjoy ghost storytelling and bringing back oral traditions from primary school, telling shitty stories to your classmates, Haunt MY Narrative is going to be a better experience.
E: And if you love women, come for Femmetopia.
V: Please nominate films for the FFIGS X Cockeye Awards.
E: Yes, we cannot let Spy give everybody a zero.
P: With so much happening at Singapore Film Week, why should audiences visit FFIGS?
E: Well, it’s free, for one. For two, you can lie down.
V: There’s space in the country for many different types of things, and this is one of them. And actually, you don’t have to choose us. We’re just inviting you, and it’ll be great to see new faces.
E: If you’re sick of watching excellent films and performances, and you’re all cultured up, overflowing and oversaturated, come laze with us. If you want to complain about a film, come here and complain about it.
V: Just don’t come and vomit in our toilet.
